Hi I hope someone can help!
I have got a new XPS420 pc from Dell with Vista OS. I have just installed a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-Express but I am unable to record streaming sound off the pc.
I have looked on other forums and I can see that this is a issue other people are having as well. As in sound devices it does not give you the "What U Hear" option.
Is there a workaround or is there an alternate soundcard I can purchase to resolve this issue?
Please help.
Thank you. |

I write here to ask if by any chance anyone has come up with a definitive answer to why it is not possible to record streaming audio?
I have the exact same system and audio card as AKSHAY1260! I have been researching this issue for months and months.
I have called Dell. They are useless in helping with this issue! They blame third party software, which is a crock. I have tried numerous third-party software programs, and none of them works!
I have both spoken with and been in correspondence with Creative SoundBlaster. They give me all kinds of nonsense. They refer me to completely irrelevant Knowledge Base articles.
I suggest (without getting paranoid) that Dell, Vista, and Creative know what the issue is but just do not tell us. I believe that Vista just doesn't give the WHAT U HEAR option on sound cards. I can't swear to this since some users on the forum I have been most active with seem to say that they can access the WHAT U HEAR function with their Vista. My question to them is, Are they using Home Premium Vista or Ultimate?
Anyhow, the patch workaround does do the job of recording off the Internet. I'm not happy with this (since I have to use earphones or patch the speakers in) with the patch solution, but failing any other workaround or genuine solution, I'll have to make do with that.
For lots and lots of postings on this niggling problem, go here:

And I would truly love to hear if anyone has found a registry fix or a sound card that, in fact, does the job of recording off the Internet. |

Nope! My soundcard just does not record streaming audio, period. I have finally had this confirmed by Soundblaster technicians.
Now, I wonder if Windows 7 will be any better? I sorely miss being able to record streaming audio. This is a total bummer situation! |
