New System - New To Vista - Need Sugustions

Hello BVD, I assume this is a great site, i've broswed it and found some great info, but im in a bit of a perdicament.

My mom bought this computer for a little over 800 dollers, but its worth over 1,200; she bought it threw a friend who gets things on sale alot.

Anyway, there were a few problems with it when we got it, but i've figured most out.

There was a problem in which, when restarting, every system change I had made was not saved, I fixed this by making a new account and now everything works; except my cd drive. I have to go into device manager and search for new plug and play devices every time I turn on the computer or restart it or something.

My second problem is I am unable to convice my family to not use P2P to download music, at least not on this new computer. So, what do you all think would be the best/safest P2P program that can run on a 32-bit Vista system.
