Password Issues in Vista

Help! Got a new Dell Inspiron 6400 (laptop) with Vista Operating System a few months ago and it was used a few times in the first couple of weeks and then not used for a couple of month. When went to signon, it asks for a password, though no password was ever established for the computer, so don't have a clue on what it could be, have tried all of the usual ones ... "password" and the 5 or so passwords used here in the office (it's an office machine) and none of them work.

I've tried downloading a couple of programs from internet sites to either reset the password or to find the password, but the CDs don't seem to register with the computer at all ... just goes to the password prompt....I've tried the F12, and it sounds like the cd is running, but then it goes to the password prompt.

Getting a bit frustrated ... any help or suggestions would be so much appreciated! Thanks, Jae

P.S. - I'm a bit limited on what I know about computers at this level.
