However, on Vista you don’t get the choice as it defaults to on. Many may not even realize the font is different, though some find it blurry and just plain dislike it. If you are amongst the haters of ClearType don’t fret you can disable it and get your standard fonts back by following the instructions.

* Click personalize
    * Click Window Color and Appearance
    * Click the link at the bottom of the page that says “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”
    * Click the effects button
    * Either uncheck the box that says “Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts” or choose standard from the drop down list rather than the default ClearType
    * Click OK
    * Click Apply
    * Click OK again and you are done

Note if you are running a version of Vista capable of running the Aero color scheme and your system has the power to run Aero the Appearance settings menu is also where you can enable Windows Aero. If you decide that you prefer ClearType simply follow these instructions again to turn ClearType back on.
