|

IE7 - The browser stops responding from once to several times every day. I use the browser for several hours per day. I have been unable to determine any particular sequence of operations leading up to the freeze. I generally have 5 to 10 tabs open at a time. Typically, I have tabs open to: Google, CNN, AltaVista-BabelFish, Yahoo Mail and Weather.com. I very frequently also have tabs open to Wikipedia, Amazon.com, IMDB. I have often streamed video from CNN and Yahoo at several points during the day. With all of these sites open at the same time, it is impractical to know what operations each site has performed just prior to the freeze.
Does anyone have any suggestions, solutions to this problem?
I am running Internet Explorer 7.0.6000.16546 on Windows Vista Home Premium. The machine is an Acer 5610Z laptop with 2 gb RAM and about 22 gb available in the System partition (C:). All Windows updates are installed as soon as they are received from Microsoft.
I have disabled all IE add-ons except for the 11 in the following list. The problem continues anyway.
Acer eDataSecurity Management
Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper
Spybot-SD IE Protection
Spybot - Search & Destroy Configuration
SSVHelper Class
Sun Java Console
Shockwave Flash Object
XML DOM Document
QuickTimeCheck Class
Windows Media Player
Adobe PDF Reader
I run Spybot, AdAware and AVG several times per week. All modules and definitions are kept up-to-date.
Thanks in advance,
Jim |

| Had the same problem. Over time, IE7 consumes increasing amount of system resources. Can easily multiply by a factor of 10 in an hour (check Process tab in Task manager as you browse). I starting using Mozilla Firefox for long term browsing months ago and do not have this issue anymore. |

| Thanks Eric. Run time doesn't seem to be a factor. I sometimes get the freeze and termination within a few minutes of starting the browser. I may be forced to use Firefox agian. I used it for several months earlier this year and an earlier version of it a few years ago. I don't really like it very much, but I may be forced to return to it. Meanwhile, the IE7 freezes continue. BTW - I did not have this problem with IE7 when I was using it with XP. |

| It has been weeks since IE7 last froze. I can only surmise that MS corrected the problem with an update. Now, if only the shortcut creation function allowed for edits to the name to be given to the new shortcut ... |
