Software Description:
New audio-matching program that identifies duplicate and similar-sounding songs by listening to your mp3 files and comparing the audio. Primary use is to free up memory being wasted on duplicates without being limited to data- or name-recognition. | Comment: | For most 21st century music fans, MP3 blogs are the source to go to for new tunes. We have our favorite reviewers who we visit regularly to download sample tracks. Those tracks are great intros to new music, but they aren't always the best quality. Then, those tracks sit around on desktops and in various music folders long after the albums have been picked up at the iTunes Store, through P2P file-sharing or even CDs. As a Mac user, I'm fully versed in the finger dance that is (Apple + R), then (Apple + del) for cleaning up my duplicate files. Now, there's a simple and uniquely reliable way (for Mac and PCers) to excise duplicate music files from their computers. Phelix is a new audio-matching app from upstart programmer Phonome Labs that compares the sounds of music files to each other. This application actually listens to individual songs and identifies their similarities and discrepancies. Since every song is evaluated by its sound, you don't have to worry about getting false positive matches like you might from data-recognition programs. As an added bonus, in addition to finding identical sound files, Phelix also has a near-match audio-selector that will appeal to mash-up and bootleg mix-makers. If you're the sort of music collector who hates the idea of wasting space on dupes, this is the program for you. |
